Words & Deeds Love Meme

Posted by: jjhunter

jjhunter is hosting the latest round here; original variation created & hosted by staranise here.

Once someone has an active thread, reply and tell them about something they've said, done, or made that you liked. A kind word, a signal-boost, a drawing, a story, a helpful post. This can be short or long. You can just name or link to something, or go into more detail.

Characterization Meme

Thu, 13 Dec 2012 13:24:55 GMT

Posted by: jjhunter

Appears to have originated with havocthecat here; lettered's variation is as follows:

Pick a character I've written and I'll list the top ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing them that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them.*

*I don't think it follows that if other people don't have those concepts in mind they're inaccurately depicting them. For what it's worth.

Ask Me Anything Meme

Thu, 13 Dec 2012 13:05:49 GMT

Posted by: jjhunter

Variations have been floating around at least since 2004 (if not earlier) on LJ; as nextian writes in a 2010 iteration, "Hilariously, the version going around has a bit about how no one remembers the actual wording". What all the iterations do share is a 'ask me anything and I will give you an honest answer' premise.

FONSFAQ Meme

Thu, 13 Dec 2012 12:41:03 GMT

Posted by: jjhunter

From dingsi's FONSFAQ masterpost:

FONSFAQ stands for "Frequently (Or Not So Frequently) Asked Questions" (about a particular topic). Someone hosts a topic, preferably one per entry, and then in comments people can ask - i.e. leave prompts - or claim some issue relating to the topic that they have always wanted to explain/write about. The host then collects the links to all essays that people have written in reply to the prompts and everybody has a lot to read and learn! dingsi maintains the master list of FONSFAQs to date.

3 Good Things Meme

Wed, 08 Feb 2012 17:00:19 GMT

Posted by: jjhunter

Meme version of 3_good_things_a_day. This particular variant comes from jjhunter's post here.

It's easy to fixate on daily irritations and disappointments. Learn from them, then let them go: be kind to yourself. In your own journal, take a moment to think of and post three good things from your day or current week. Small or large, they are booster shots of pleasure worth sharing.

Comment with a fandom, any fandom. If I'm into that fandom, I'll rec you three goodies: fanfic, art, vids, meta, whatever strikes my fancy. If I'm not, I'll tell you 'Go fish!' and ask you a fandom in return.

Letter Meme

Wed, 14 Sep 2011 14:47:39 GMT

Posted by: jjhunter

There are several versions of this floating around the internets; the version currently circulating on DW simply involves listing favorite things, as opposed to, say, favorite authors/characters. See matopia's entry here for an example.

Comment to this entry and I'll give you a letter. List ten things that you love that begin with that letter and then post that list on your journal.

3 First Lines Meme

Wed, 14 Sep 2011 01:36:44 GMT

Posted by: jjhunter

jjhunter created a guess-which meme using opening lines.

Give me three first lines:
The first line from one of your favorite books.

The first line from something you wrote or one of your favorite fics.

Gratuitous first line you just made up on the spot.
Randomly scrabble the order (or not), and then challenge your readers to guess which is which. Bonus points for identifying the sources!

Chromatic Casting Meme

Sat, 10 Sep 2011 14:26:04 GMT

Posted by: jjhunter

Place of take-off here @ handyhunter; Buffy the Vampire Slayer example by entwashian, Harry Potter version by such_heights, and really, there are many, many more out there. Check them out--and various meta in response--via linkspam here.

Basic idea? Recast a movie, a tv show, a book or comic adaption, etc. with chromatic casting. Pictures make it vivid.

Confused by what's meant by 'chromatic' here? I like dark_agenda's profile definition:

We use the term “chromatic” as an umbrella definition for “person of color”, “non-white”, "multiracial", "indigenous", "sourcelander”, “hyphenate”, “diasporian”, etc.; while we acknowledge that it has shortcomings. Similarly, we accept that there is a certain flattening in our “white/Western/other” terminology.

Icon Meme

Thu, 25 Aug 2011 21:42:18 GMT

Posted by: jjhunter

I've seen a couple of versions of this one floating around with different words ('FACT', 'UNICORNS', 'FENCE', 'BANANA', 'ICON ME!' etc.). Here's an example of the UNICORN variant from eurydice72:

1. Reply to this post with "UNICORNS", and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

The Archive of Our Own Fic Commenting Meme

Thu, 25 Aug 2011 21:23:47 GMT

Posted by: jjhunter

ruuger has started an Archive of Our Own-centered fic commenting meme.

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is then to go to Archive of Our own, and...
Look up an old favourite and let the writer know that you still love the story.
Find a story in your favourite fandom that you haven't read, or for which you haven't remembered to leave feedback.
Cheer up a friend by leaving feedback to their fic.
Go to the random tags view, select an interesting tag, and see of you can find something you like.
